When Christmas eve has come and frost is in the air
and peace should fill the hearts of people everywhere,
when Santa travels east, south, north and west
his tired helpers go to rest.

For days and weeks and months they've done a million things,
they've worked and taken care of all that Yuletide brings
of happiness and joy for me and you -
they've had so very much to do!

And all the helpers cease to hurry
and all but one climb into bed,
this tiny helper seems to worry,
he can't get something from his head!

He tiptoes to the window, looks into the sky
and watches dreams and hopes and promises go by.
He wonders if they ever will come true
and knows just what he has to do!

He goes to find the secret treasure
of freedom for the human race,
of love and goodwill and with pleasure
he lets it all out - just in case...

And Christmas morning comes and joy is in the air
for peace has filled the hearts of people everywhere
but far-away beneath a northern light
a helper falls asleep - good night!
